First "real" sickness

Last Monday, Carter started to have a constant tear in his eye (the tear is gone now, not sure how it connects to the story)...then Wednesday, Carter started running a low grade temperature (99s) which I just thought was connected to more teething. That night in the nursery he was so unhappy. On Thursday, his appetite started to change. Friday morning at 3am, he woke up cryyyying and with a temperature of 102.4. I've never felt anyone so hot. About an hour and half later, he finally fell asleep in bed with us. That morning, I called the doctor and they asked to bring him in. This was the first time we have taken Carter to the doctor besides for well-checks. Carter weighed 24lbs 1 oz (He's 11 months today!). They took his temperature and it was 98.7...good ear and good eyes. So the nurse took some blood and checked his white blood cell count which was "lower than normal". Dr. Langdon said he had a viral infection. She said to keep with the Tylenol and add Motrin (and that we can upgrade our dosage or change to children's Tylenol or Motrin because of his weight) and to give him a multivitamin. That multivitamin stiiiiiiiiiinks so bad...I have to hide it in his foods for him to eat it. Its also a battle to get him to take the Motrin. Over the weekend, he was still not eating normal and whinnnny. On Sunday, at the pool we noticed that he was developing a little rash on his belly. I searched online to determine that it was the infection leaving the body. On Monday, I called the Dr's office and they confirmed what I had read. He is finally today starting to eating better but still whiny, but not as bad.

Indoor pool

We enjoyed a fun day with the family on Sunday at the indoor pool. Aaron teaches swim lessons at our pool so he was teaching Carter a few things...like sticking his face in the water and blowing bubbles. He didn't really blow any bubbles. By the time we left, I could tell Carter was much more comfortable in the pool. Looking forward to sunny days at the pool this summer! :)

Happy 1st Birthday Gabriel!

We celebrated Gabriel's 1st birthday on Saturday. Gabriel is 3 weeks older than Carter...but he was about 7 weeks early.

Practicing for Carter's cake debut in a couple weeks. He's never had anything sweet like that, besides a bite here and there.

March 31, 2009 4:47pm

Aaron has been working on his National Boards which is lots of writing about classroom discussions/activities/work samples, etc for the past couple months. He was staying at school everyday till 5pm. The postmarked deadline was Tuesday, March 31...and Aaron's was postmarked 4:47pm. We were done packing it earlier that day...and decided to rest during Carter's nap time. The weekend prior to the due date, I was in Asheville on a Ladies Retreat. Luckily, my parents watched Carter all weekend so Aaron could slave away on NB. Aaron will find out his results in December which earn his a 12% pay raise...which is not quite the 100% we lost of mine, but close! :P
After we mailed off everything, we headed out to dinner at Lonestar! Carter enjoyed chowin' down on grilled cheese and fries. After dinner, we went to the Clayton softball at SSS. Aaron has coached for the past 4 seasons, but decided to only coach 1 sport this year so he could complete the National Boards. Our life is a little back to normal now. We are so proud of Aaron! :)

10.5 months

After a diaper change recently, Aaron button his right leg on the left leg and his left leg on his right leg. I think he needs more practice changing diapers. What do you think? :)

Carter is into everything these days. He really enjoys exploring in the kitchen most. He interacts with the dogs a lot more too. He's pretty rough with them by pulling on their ears and poking them in the eyes. He likes to stand at the back door and watch them on the porch. Last week, the dogs jumped the fence. I wasn't home so Aaron had to grab Carter and take him with him as he ran through the backyard to get the dogs. Aaron said Carter laughed the whole time.

Carter is really loud and talks a lot. He also manages to talk during any prayer. He says mama, dada, hey, bye & ball. We are working on the word doggie. Sometimes I hear it.
He throws all sorts of things...toys, sippy cups, his hands in the air, himself on the floor with he gets popped on the hair (its kinda funny).
He loves to go on walks!
Carter's hair is getting little curls in the back. He's so cute! :)
Carter is starting to stand for a couple seconds on his own. I think we've got another milestone approaching.
All 4 of Carter's top teeth are in, in addition to his 2 bottom ones.
Carter loves yogurt. Actually he'll eat pretty much anything.
I have mixed lots of different flavored puffs, cheerios, yogurt melts (all little baby foods for those without babies) and Carter always eats everything but the cheerios first. And then manages to drop those in his lap so he can get more of the good stuff. Does he really know what he's doing?

We try to visit my grandparents at least every other week. Here's my grandma giving Carter an orange.

It's official...

Earlier in the week, I forwarded one of the assistant principal's the name of a teacher looking for a Family and Consumer Sciences position. The assistant principal's responded by asking me what I was doing in the fall. I figured I should pay her a visit instead of responding via email. She knew in the back of her mind that I wasn't coming back but she needed to hear from me. So Tuesday, I stopped by and broke the news. I am not returning to CHS in the fall. Shocking? No. I absolutely love staying home with Carter!! I also love being able to hang out with Aaron and enjoy time with him and Carter after school. It's so nice to not have to deal with the stress of teaching high school. It's also so nice to be able to visit my grandparents every week (or every other) so they can enjoy some time with Carter! Not to mention the benefits to Carter too. I am truly blessed to have a supportive husband! He's great. And is willing to work odd jobs...teaching swim lessons on the weekends in order to help fill the gap of my missing salary. I would not trade this time with Carter for anything!!

Picnic at Pullen Park

On Sunday, we enjoyed the beautiful weather with a picnic at Pullen Park with our friends Josh & Jennifer and their four kids! We played on the playground, fed the ducks and fish and watched Aaron and Josh play tennis! I'm excited for Spring!!
